Who Will Be Wearing Green This Year?

The best golfers in the world are gearing up for the difficulties they will face at Augusta in the 2014 Masters that is taking place April 10-13. With Tiger Woods not in the field, the green jacket is up for grabs as much now than it ever has been. His absence from the event undoubtedly opens up the field and allows for more favorites to present themselves leading up to the four-day iconic spectacle. Joining the exclusive “fraternity” of Master’s champions and donning the green jacket, is what makes winning the season’s first major so elite and rich with tradition.

With little surprise, Rory McIlroy tops the list of favorites as he joins Adam Scott with 10-1 chance of winning what would be his first Masters. Although Woods is not the only golfer that has kept McIlroy from winning a major, in fact Woods has not won a major since 2008, Rory’s second season on tour, but without his biggest nemesis in attendance, it creates a unique opportunity for Rory and the rest of the field.

As for Australian Adam Scott, he has built a reputation as an elite player on tour, but one that couldn’t close or perform to expectations in majors despite being in position repeatedly. That was until 2013. when Scott defeated Angel Cabrera in a playoff to win the 2013 Masters. If Adam Scott comes away with another green jacket, he will be the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002 to win the Masters in consecutive years.

Las Vegas odds courtesy of Vegas Insider has the field, meaning any other golfer at 15/1 odds along with Phil Mickelson, Justin Day and Dustin Johnson. With Mickelson owning 3 green jackets to his name, only a few people during the weekend will know success better than him. Although age and his arthritic condition seems to slow down Phil during some parts of the season, he still remains in the top 5 of the world golf rankings and found himself winning the British Open last year and placing second in the U.S. Open. What some do not realize is that Phil will need to play through a recent pulled muscle that forced him to withdraw from the Texas Open less than 3 weeks ago.

There is no sure- fire bet to make on any individual in this tournament, especially anyone at 15-1, but anyone who goes out on a limb and puts money on Phil to win his 4th Masters will receive a big payout.
