Practice hitting off Deadpan (short or no grass): Rukket Style

Hitting off deadpan: when the ground is hard your club tends to bounce off the ground and hit the top half of the ball. The tighter the lie the ball is resting on, the more the club should be on its toe at address. Keeping the club on its toe lessens the chance it will hit the ground and bounce.

Keys:

Use a pitching wedge (less bounce than a sand wedge)

Position the ball in the middle of your stance

Move towards the ball but keep your hands at the same distance from your body. This pushes the club onto its toe.

Put most of your weight onto the front hip while staying upright.

Move your front foot slightly back so your body is open to the chipping net and your clubface will be slightly open to the right. Be sure the ball is still in the middle of your stance.

Important: take a few practice swings before you attempt the shot.

This shot doesn’t consist of changing your body’s weight, only rotation.

Experiment with different angles of your body’s geometry to see what works best for you.
