Perfect Warm-up Routine

Warming up before you play. Practice your warm up daily with each session on your golf net before you take it to the course. Get a solid routine to improve your game.

  1. Stretch! Especially focusing on the trunk muscles. Your latoral and abdominal muscles should be top priority. Take 20 long swings while holding two clubs then take 10 swings with your sand wedge (the heaviest club). Fully stretching out your muscles will increase your power and distance and reduce the chance of hurting yourself. Increased flexibility over the long term is going to be an added bonus to your golf game. (see our past articles on stretching as well)

  2. Swing using your driver, just don’t try to blast it at first. Being great with a driver is really important, it will also will get you warmed up, help you get balanced and its just plain fun. Now is not the time to crank it as far as possible though. Save the longest drivers for later in your practice session. Also you have the fullest swing done so your muscles are prepared for whatever you plan to work on for the day.

  3. Really focus on the mechanics. Work on the technical right now so when you start practicing harder it is already ingrained and you can devote less time to thinking about your grip.

  4. Switch up the clubs you use for your warm up. Don’t use the same 7 iron each time. If you are getting your 30-minute practice sessions in each day you can alternate through the odds and evens. That way you are getting structure into your warm up routine and getting some time on each club.

Now when you get to the course you have a solid routine to get into the groove and know what gets you warmed up before a round. Having a warm up routine that is second nature will make it seem like less of a chore and you are always starting out with your muscles loosened up to the same standard each time. All this will increase your distance and most important to a golfer, increased consistency.
