Fun on the... Links? Absolutely!

There’s more to golf than just counting strokes (some people get mad and throw their clubs too). Here are some more golf-esque games you can play to liven up your next outing.

Sixes: Also known as “Round Robin,” this game, when played with a foursome, gives you a chance to play with every person in your group. Basically, you’re partnered with one person for the first six holes, a different person for the middle six, and then the third player for the final six. At the end of the full round, each player will have been your partner for six holes, so if have a rough go of it on the first six holes, you get a fresh start with a fresh partner later on. It basically breaks up a round into three short matches.

Scotch Foursome: This is a great game to play right around the Ryder cup, as it gives you a greater appreciation for just how tough it is even for the pros. You and your partner decide whom tee’s off on the even-numbered holes and the odd-numbered holes. After teeing off, the game is

just as it sounds; the two of you alternate shots until the ball is in the hole. This game makes for some pretty fast play, seeing as how there is only one ball for each team.

Bisque: This game is great to play on a course you know well with holes that give you trouble. Just ignore the handicap mandates on the scorecard and use them on any hole you want! There is a maximum of two strokes that you can use on any hole. The one catch is, you must declare your one or two handicap strokes before you tee off.

Bridge: That’s right, it’s no longer just a card game. At the tee, a set amount is wagered and then one team bids on how many strokes it will take them both to hole out. The other team then will take the bet, make a lower bid, or take the bet and double it. If they double it, the first team has the option to double it back. Once the betting is done, the hole is played. The losing team then opens the bidding on the next hole.

Nassau: This is one of the most popular games out there for golfers to bet on. The game is broken up into three bets: Low score on the front nine, low score on the back nine, and low

overall score. Before the round, all players agree upon a predetermined dollar amount. To even things up and add another element to the game, the group can add a “press” to the equation. A press is a side bet, usually initiated by a player who is behind. Most times, the press is half or

equal to the running wager and there are different press rules to be decided by the group, such as who can initiate a press and when, and if the leading player is allowed to turn down a press or if it is compulsory.
