Brrr… Golfing in the Cold

For most of us, it’s getting cold out there on the course! For some of us… it’s unfortunately too cold and if you’re from an area where it is always warm, we are envious.

But, if you are still able to beat the weather to get to the course, here are some great winter golf tips to keep your game strong:

  • Dress in smaller thinner layers, do not wear bulky clothes. It is difficult to swing with bulky layers. The thinner layers allow more movement and an easier swing.

  • Wear a warm comfy winter hat. We loose most of our heat through our head, so make sure to keep your cranium warm to stay sharp on the course.

  • Remember to wear an extra pair of socks (or at least have an extra pair in your bag). Keeping your feet warm is important.

  • Perhaps the most important body parts to keep warm though will be your hands. Make sure to wear warm winter gloves and take them off just before hitting your shot. After, put them back on right away. Your hands are the only part connected to the club and that connection needs to be strong.

  • Cold weather reduces the distance a ball will travel, so consider taking an extra club

  • The chilly temperatures will also cause your body to turn and move much slower, so this aspect of your swing needs to be taken into account as well.

  • Stretch and Warm-up: if you do this when it is warm, double the time for when it is cold. Grab your RukkNet portable golf net and set it up before your round so you don’t start out as cold as the temperature.
